Summary

Providing social contact and wellbeing support to young people aged 17–25.

Detailed description

Core tasks

  • To engage in a social activity with a young person experiencing emotional issues
  • To explore community-based activities the young person may like to access
  • To be a supportive role model whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • To engage with the young person and encourage empowerment and independence

Person specification

  • The volunteer needs to have, warmth, sensitivity, understanding, patience and a sense of humour, with a mature flexible outlook and enough time to volunteer regularly.
  • To be able to give at least six months commitment.
  • No specific experience is necessary as training will be given
  • Must be aged over 18

Support offered

  • Induction training is provided before volunteers take up their roles
  • Ongoing training is provided by the coordinator
  • Support/supervision sessions provided
  • Reimbursement of expenses
  • Public liability insurance cover

Any other information

  • Volunteers are required to complete an application form
  • Provide details of two referees (who are not related and have known the applicant for a minimum of two years)
  • Complete a DBS check
  • Attend any training required
