Summary

Support children and young people (aged 5–17) by acting as a mentor to them.

Detailed description

Core tasks

  • Meet weekly with a child or young person, usually in person (initial online meetings could be online depending on the needs of the person)
  • Actively listen to the child or young person
  • Support the child or young person to put together and carry out a personalised Wellbeing Action Plan
  • Prepare for ongoing sessions to check in on how things are going
  • Provide ongoing support until the sessions are completed (we anticipate each child or young person receiving up to 6 sessions as part of this programme)

Person specification

  • The volunteer needs to have, warmth, sensitivity, understanding, patience and a sense of humour, with a mature flexible outlook and enough time to volunteer regularly.
  • To be able to give at least six months’ commitment.
  • No specific experience is necessary as training will be given
  • Must be aged over 18

Support offered

  • Induction training is provided before volunteers take up their roles
  • Ongoing training is provided by the coordinator
  • Support/supervision sessions provided
  • Reimbursement of expenses
  • Public liability insurance cover

Any other information

  • Volunteers are required to complete an application form
  • Provide details of two referees (who are not related and have known the applicant for a minimum of two years)
  • Complete a DBS check
  • Attend any training required
