Summary
Support children and young people (aged 5–17) by acting as a mentor to them.Detailed description
Core tasks
- Meet weekly with a child or young person, usually in person (initial online meetings could be online depending on the needs of the person)
- Actively listen to the child or young person
- Support the child or young person to put together and carry out a personalised Wellbeing Action Plan
- Prepare for ongoing sessions to check in on how things are going
- Provide ongoing support until the sessions are completed (we anticipate each child or young person receiving up to 6 sessions as part of this programme)
Person specification
- The volunteer needs to have, warmth, sensitivity, understanding, patience and a sense of humour, with a mature flexible outlook and enough time to volunteer regularly.
- To be able to give at least six months’ commitment.
- No specific experience is necessary as training will be given
- Must be aged over 18
Support offered
- Induction training is provided before volunteers take up their roles
- Ongoing training is provided by the coordinator
- Support/supervision sessions provided
- Reimbursement of expenses
- Public liability insurance cover
Any other information
- Volunteers are required to complete an application form
- Provide details of two referees (who are not related and have known the applicant for a minimum of two years)
- Complete a DBS check
- Attend any training required
