Summary

Volunteer your time to help us run our peer support sessions.

Detailed description

Survivor Sanctuary runs multiple groups across the city, several times a month. Mostly on a Saturday afternoon, and some during weekday evenings. Our volunteers host our sessions by welcoming people and letting them into the building, making hot drinks and serving our delicious home made cakes, setting up our activities and packing up and cleaning away at the end.

You will also sit and take part with the planned activities and chat to members of the group, informally, ensuring they are happy and taking part. We have separate facilitators who come in and run the activities so you will not need to design or lead these but we would love you to help them set up and join in with the activity with the rest of the group.

We do not require a regular commitment from you, you can sign up for dates that you are available. We just ask that you commit to support one session in 6 months.

Training for working with survivors will be provided.

Who are we looking for?

  • You do not need to be a survivor, we encourage people with any lived experience
  • Women only volunteers - for our women’s group
  • Any gender volunteers for our Trans and Queer group
  • Someone who can provide a warm and friendly welcome
  • Can make a good cuppa!
  • Is able to chat about anything and everything to our group - never about people’s trauma. We love to chat about what is good on TV, recipes - general chit chat.
  • Is happy and able to move tables and chairs around to set up the space
  • Is able to take the lead on setting up the afternoon’s activities and cleaning up and packing away at the end, including some washing up!
  • Someone who is keen to build their own skills and experiences
  • Someone who understands and can respect confidentiality
  • Someone who would like to join in with craft and wellbeing activities, hosted by a guest facilitator

About Survivor Sanctuary

Survivor Sanctuary is a grassroots organisation, which is led by survivors, for survivors. We provide peer to peer support for victim-survivors who have experienced sexual violence and domestic abuse. At our core we cultivate a safe space which provides connection, belonging and friendship through our shared lived experiences, no matter where survivors are on their journey.
