Summary

We’re setting up a Repair Station at our Community EX(CHANGE) events

Detailed description

We’re looking for volunteers with a range of repair skills to help keep useful items in circulation! Whether you're handy with tools, skilled with a sewing machine, or experienced with minor electrical repairs, we’d love to have you on board.

This is a semi-led repair space, meaning attendees will bring in items, and volunteers will support them with practical fixes. A Repair Station Lead will support volunteers, help coordinate the station and ensure everything runs smoothly.

Skills & Areas We’re Looking For:

🔹 Seamstress / Textile Repair:

Repair soft furnishings, clothing, or fabric-based items.

Fix tears, replace buttons, mend seams, or add simple alterations.

🔹 General Household Repairs:

Fix or reinforce small furniture items (e.g., wobbly chairs, broken drawers).

Provide minor woodworking fixes like sanding, glueing, or reattaching parts.

🔹 Small Appliance & Home Electronics (Non-Electrical Repairs):

Help troubleshoot and repair basic home appliances (kettles, toasters, lamps).

Ensure moving parts, switches, and casings are intact and working.

Those comfortable with electrical repairs will be supported by the Repair Station Lead.

🔹 DIY & Upcycling Enthusiasts:

Help with creative fixes and repurposing items into something new.

Assist attendees in re-imagining broken items into practical solutions.

🔹 General Problem Solvers!

Even if your skill doesn’t fit a specific category, we’d love handy people who enjoy fixing things and helping others troubleshoot problems!

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist attendees with practical, hands-on repairs to extend the life of everyday items.

-Guide people through basic DIY fixes where possible.

-Work alongside the Repair Station Lead to create a welcoming, supportive space.

-If possible, bring your own tools or equipment related to your skill set.

No PAT testing is required—we will have a qualified PAT tester on-site for electrical safety checks.

The Repair Station Lead will support volunteers working on minor electrical repairs to ensure safe and effective fixes.

Who We’re Looking For:

- Anyone with repair skills who is willing to help others.

-A patient, friendly attitude—this is as much about supporting people as it is about fixing things.

- Someone who enjoys hands-on work and problem-solving.

- A team player—working alongside others in a fun and supportive community setting.

What You’ll Gain:

*A chance to share your skills and support your local community.

*Hands-on experience in a community-led initiative.

*The satisfaction of seeing items fixed and put back into use rather than discarded.

* The opportunity to meet like-minded people and be part of something meaningful.

Additional Information:

💡 This is a volunteer role—no formal qualifications are required, just relevant repair experience.

💡 If you have your tools or sewing kits, that would be a great help!

💡 We will have an on-site PAT tester, so this role does not require electrical safety testing.

💡 The Repair Station Lead will support volunteers working on small electrical items to ensure safe practices.

💡You can volunteer for this event or express interest in future opportunities.
