Summary

Supporting and providing advice and advocacy to refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, persons needing to claim asylum and destitute persons in Coventry.

Detailed description

Volunteer Caseworkers provide advice and advocate on behalf of refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, persons needing to claim asylum and destitute persons in Coventry and the surrounding area.

Volunteers will be coordinated and supported by the team Coreworker who is responsible for overseeing the advice services.

Main Activities-

  • Identify client needs and work with the Coreworker to develop a support strategy.
  • Work under the supervision and support of a Coreworker to ensure that correct procedures are used to assist clients in areas such as destitution, health, finance, housing, statutory benefits, education, employment and immigration.
  • Signposting to relevant support services
  • Working in collaboration with other CRMC departments and external agencies to provide the best support for clients.
  • Administrative tasks such as recording accurate case notes on company database after each client visit.

Essential Attributes that will make you successful in this role-

  • Confidence using ICT including Microsoft Office
  • Good phone manner and interpersonal skills
  • Sensitive to others and cultural awareness
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Confidence using databases
  • Able to work under pressure and with accuracy
  • Commitment to assisting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information.
