Detailed description

Are you passionate about turning houses into homes and making a positive impact in your community? Do you enjoy hands-on work and love connecting with people? Join our Furniture Project team as a Support Volunteer and help provide essential items to families in need!

By volunteering with us, you’ll be part of a vital effort to support refugees and others in need, turning their empty houses into comfortable homes while also contributing to environmental sustainability.

What You’ll Do:

  • Furniture Deliveries: Join our furniture delivery team and assist in delivering essential items to families, ensuring they have the furniture and appliances needed to settle into their new homes.
  • Community Collections: Participate in one-off events where we conduct large collections of furniture and household items. Help us collect, sort, and clean donations to prepare them for redistribution.
  • Organise and Repurpose: Work with your team to organise donated items, ensuring they’re ready for delivery and can positively impact the lives of those in need.
  • Promote Environmental Sustainability: Be part of our recycling efforts by helping to keep good quality items out of landfills and ensuring they find new homes where they are truly needed.

Why This Role is Exciting:

  • Hands-on impact: You’ll directly help individuals and families transform their living spaces into homes filled with comfort and essentials.
  • Be part of a meaningful mission: Support refugees and community members who are rehomed at short notice, ensuring they have what they need to live comfortably.
  • Gain valuable experience: Learn practical skills in logistics, organisation, and teamwork while contributing to an important cause.
  • Make a difference for the environment: Your efforts will not only help people but also positively impact the environment by promoting recycling and reusing quality items.

Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Team spirit: You enjoy working collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Physical stamina: You’re comfortable with tasks that may involve lifting and moving furniture and household items.
  • Attention to detail: You take pride in ensuring that donations are sorted and prepared for distribution correctly.
  • Compassion and empathy: You understand the importance of providing support to those in need and are committed to helping them feel at home.

No experience needed! Just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to help, and we’ll provide the training and support you need.

About Carriers of Hope

Our organisation supports Refugees, Asylum Seekers and other Migrants in Coventry.
We offer practical support to our clients by supplying vital necessities, ranging from food and nappies to pushchairs, toys, books, kitchenware and furniture. We repurpose high-quality donations from our local community, ensuring that individuals have access to everything they need to build their new lives in Coventry and reduce waste in our city too.
We foster a welcoming community for newcomers to the city, ensuring that no one faces the challenges of adjusting to a new place, language, and culture alone. By volunteering with us, our clients gain valuable opportunities to improve their English, develop new skills, deepen their understanding of their adopted home, and increase their chances of employment.
We work with partner organisations and agencies across the city to ensure our isolated clients can access all of the services available to ensure a happy and healthy future, from helping an individual understand the NHS App and make vital medical appointments, to linking them with legal experts and employment services, to enrolling them on budgeting courses, our aim is to ensure that everyone is empowered to live a positive, independent life.
Our work is made possible by the support and dedication of our diverse volunteer team, which includes local people, current and former clients, students, corporate teams, community groups, and professionals.
Whoever you are, we believe you can bring something truly special and important to Carriers of Hope. We offer both regular and one-off volunteering opportunities across all projects, providing full training, chances to improve your English or enhance your skills, and, most importantly, an opportunity to join a vibrant and welcoming community.
